He got his first tooth!!

After about 2 months of teething we have a break through!! His bottom front teeth are starting to appear. Right now he only has one that we can see but the other one is on it's way. Bring on the tooth fairy!!!!! Thank goodness for Children's Motrin and Hyland's teething tabs! I don't know what I would have done without them. Sorry I can't post pics of the now famous tooth because little man will not sit still long enough. But just to recap...

There was a lot of crying...

a lot of chewing...

more crying...

and finally a tooth! It's so funny watching him feel his tooth!

Happy 8 month birthday Owen Nicholas!

Owen is 8 months old today! He's changing so much. We are amazed at all the things he has learned to do. We had to put the crib mattress down a level because any day now he's going to start pulling himself up. I have to admit I was a little sad about it. He's starting to scoot and roll all over the place. There are so many things to look forward to but it's hard to see him get more and more independent. Now when we pick him up he reaches to get back down. Diaper changes and getting him dressed have now turned into wrestling matches. As soon as you get one leg in and start working on the other he kicks the first leg out. It's turning into a two person job!
He is really starting to enjoy finger foods. Some of his favorites are pasta, bananas, pears, and steamed apples. He thinks he is such a big boy feeding himself now. He really goes crazy for the veggie puffs. He makes a lot of noise when he recognizes the yellow container. This kid loves to eat and will eat just about anything. He must get that from his dad because his mama is a picky eater.

I had a hard time picking out a few pictures.... so I used them all. He's just too cute!

He's on the move!

Over the last few weeks Owen has learned how to go from sitting to his tummy. This is a huge milestone for him because now he is mobile. He isn't crawling yet but he has mastered the art of rolling and scooting backwards. Gone are the days of putting him down and him being there when you come back. Gone are the days of leaving shoes and other various things on the floor. This is a whole new world for us but ready or not here he comes!

Two playdates in one day

Owen and mommy had a very busy day today. Owen's friends came for a visit this morning. He was very excited to see Miss Emily. It's so neat to see them actually playing with each other now. It's so much fun to watch Owen play with babies his own age. Playdates are also fun for mommy because she gets to talk to adults!!!

I think we need to work on sharing : (

We also went to our neighborhood playdate today. Owen had so much fun swinging with Jackson. In fact he had so much fun he fell asleep!

Mother's Day

I can’t believe I am celebrating my first mother’s day! Now, I'm one of them. I'm an unkempt, sleep-deprived new mom who permanently has baby on the brain. For seven months now, since a 7-pound, 14 ounce baby boy named Owen entered the world, my life has been forever changed!

I once read that “making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.” I never knew what this truly meant until I held Owen for the first time. When the nurse brought him over to me I felt as if my heart swelled several sizes and then I burst into tears of joy, I know it was partly hormones but also it was one of the most profound moments of my life. I knew that I loved this little person more than myself. I was absolutely overwhelmed by the need to protect him, love him and do whatever was necessary to make sure he was perfectly happy. In that moment a mother was born and it was my turn. I now obsess over car seat safety, BPA toxins in plastic, baby proofing our home, and a million other crazy thoughts . When we were living in NYC I actually was afraid of squirrels. I was convinced a rabid squirrel was going to jump into the stroller and hurt him. I know that the odds of a crazed squirrel jumping into a stroller are slim to none, but I was convinced that it was going to happen. It’s no wonder mothers are exhausted… we have so many things to worry about.

I finally have someone who enjoys my singing, particularly my off-key rendition of The Apples and Banana Song. I have someone who thinks I am hilarious and gives me a courtesy laugh if my joke falls flat. The last few minutes before he falls asleep rubbing his eyes with the back of his chubby little hands makes all the screaming, all the rocking, all the sleepless nights worth it. Being a mom isn’t easy but it is the best thing I have ever done in my life!
Happy Mother’s Day!!!

James and Owen spoiled me for my first Mother's day! They brought me breakfast in bed which was extra yummy! It was way better than my usual bowl of cheerios. James even remembered to put a Mountain Dew on the tray: ) I opened my cards and I got a gift card to go to a SPA! Owen must have told his daddy that mommy needed a massage. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better James took me to a great restaurant for dinner. Not only did we go to dinner but we went ALONE! Owen spent the evening having fun with his Aunt Tammy. I had a fantastic mother's day!

Off to the land of organic

Owen and I ventured out to Trader Joe's to buy some organic fruits and veggies. I feel the need to be domestic and make his baby food. Who knew I could be such a happy homemaker?

Springfest Weekend in OC

This weekend Owen and Mommy made their first car trip alone together. (Daddy was in Vegas for a bachelor party) I was a little afraid that he would cry the entire time. But he was soooooo good. He started to get fussy when we got to the Eastern Shore of Virginia so we stopped to visit his pop pop at work and then we visited his great grandpa. I couldn't have asked for a better baby. We had a great weekend spending time with family. Here are some pictures of Owens weekend in OC.

This kid loves french fries! I didn't let him have any Thrasher's fries this time. (I was scared of him having a reaction to the peanut oil) However, nothing got in his way of trying to snag a fry.
He had so much fun with his cousins Grayson, Grace and Gregory! We are looking forward to meeting baby G on the 23rd!!
Owen and I had fun looking at all the exhibits at spring fest. It was such a beautiful day!

Goodbye baby seat... Hello big boy seat!

After hours of research James and I recently purchased a new car seat for Owen. He was outgrowing his infant carrier. Sigh : ( It's just one more sign that he's growing up. We decided to buy the Britax Boulevard with side impact protection. We were afraid that he wouldn't like his new seat but he loves it. I think he likes being able to see out of the window better. He also insists on hearing Number 5 on his Caterpillar. He loves the ladybug song. I'm glad he will be comfy for all of the road trips we take: )

You can see him reaching to play number 5... he loves the 5 little lady bugs song : )

If there was any doubt that it was comfortable.... He fell asleep during the first trip out. We had only been gone a few minutes before he was snoozing.
